How DownStatus works
Methodology- User reportsPeople tell us what fails for them. 5, 20 and 50 reports an hour set the status level.
- Official status pagesRead every 5 minutes for services that publish one.
- Website checksChecked every 20 minutes. When a check fails, we recheck the site from North America, Europe and Asia.
- RedditSpikes in posts about a service being down, checked every 15 minutes.
Frequently asked questions
How does DownStatus detect outages?
We combine four signals: user reports, official status pages, checks of each website every 20 minutes (rechecked from North America, Europe and Asia when they fail) and Reddit mentions. 5 reports in an hour mark a service as degraded, 20 as a partial outage and 50 as a major outage.
Is DownStatus free to use?
Yes, DownStatus is completely free. You can check the status of any monitored service and submit problem reports without creating an account.
How accurate is outage detection?
No single signal decides. We compare user reports with our own website checks and the official status page, and every service page shows which sources agree and how confident the verdict is.
How do I report an outage?
Open the service page, tell us whether the service works for you and pick what fails: website, app, login, payments or something else. Your report counts right away and helps others see the problem.
Which services does DownStatus monitor?
More than 800 services: social networks, streaming, games, cloud providers, banks, telecom and internet providers, email and more. All of them are listed on the All services page. If one is missing, contact us.
How is DownStatus different from official status pages?
An official status page shows what the company has confirmed, often with a delay. DownStatus adds what users report and what our own checks see, so you can tell whether a problem is real before the company acknowledges it.
